Evangel University athletic teams to volunteer with Salvation Army

Published on Nov 20, 2012 by Jennifer Hall

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — More than 200 students and members of the Evangel University Athletics Program will give back to their community by participating in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign on Friday, Dec. 7.

Student athletes and faculty members will volunteer for bell-ringing shifts at each of the 16 entrances to Battlefield Mall.

Last year, the Salvation Army honored Evangel’s athletics program for raising a total of $1,793.02 in donations. This amount was the highest raised by any organization that volunteered with the local Salvation Army for the 2011 holiday season.

“The Salvation Army was particularly complimentary of our athletes and their desire to serve our community in such a collective and dynamic way,” said Chad Gehring, Evangel’s coordinator of athletic ministry.

The efforts of the athletic teams were coordinated through The Evangel Athletics Ministry, or T.E.A.M. Since its inception in 2009, T.E.A.M. has provided opportunities for Evangel’s student athletes to serve local agencies and participate in short-term international service trips.

For additional information, contact Chad Gehring at (417) 865-2815, ext. 8213 or gehringc@evangel.edu.

Evangel University is a private, Christian university of arts, sciences and professions. With an enrollment of more than 2,000 students from all 50 states and abroad, Evangel offers more than 100 undergraduate academic programs and nine master’s programs.

Christmas concert to benefit Salvation Army

Evangel’s ministry efforts with the Salvation Army will also include the 29th annual Christmas concert, to be held in the university’s chapel auditorium at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7. Admission to the concert is a canned food item or cash donation to benefit the Salvation Army.
