David Grant speaks at Evangel’s chapel to kick off Project Rescue awareness

January 30, 2013 | Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —Rev. David Grant, co-founder and director of Project Rescue, will be the guest speaker for Evangel’s chapel at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Grant is kicking off a semester-long campaign, promoting student awareness about Project Rescue.

Sarah Walters, assistant professor of kinesiology, Logan James, residence director of Burgess Hall, and Annie Bailey, residence director of Spence Hall, are teaming together to organize the events.

Project Rescue is a nonprofit organization that works to provide a safe environment for women and children in sexual slavery in countries across the globe.

Other Activities

“We hope to offer as many different avenues as possible for students to get involved,” Walters said.

1.)    A residence hall contest will take place to challenge students to raise money in each hall to buy bunk beds for the participants of Project Rescue. One bunk bed costs about $250. Each dorm is responsible for producing their fundraiser; the dorm that raises the most funds will receive a prize.

2.)    The team will host a booth to raise funds during Evangel’s annual Fashion Fever, on Thursday, March 14. The booth will sell jewelry, shirts, etc. for students, faculty and staff.

3.)    To raise awareness about Project Rescue in St. Louis, a group of students, faculty and staff is running a half marathon in April.

For more information, contact Sarah Walters at (417) 862-2781, ext. 7391.
