Evangel University professor presents workshop at national college media convention

February 4, 2013 | Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Nancy Pace-Miller, assistant professor of communication at Evangel University, presented a workshop titled “All Good Things Come from Yearbook” at the 2012 ACP/CMA National College Media Convention, held in Chicago, Ill., Nov. 1-4.

The workshop illustrated the relationship between students who participate in collegiate media and how their experiences prepare them to succeed in the work force.

“The ACP conference coordinator asked me to present a topic related to the organization, development and management of college yearbooks,” Pace-Miller said. “The topic was to include the work of student media and how it provides a viable work experience that could get students internships or jobs.”

As the communication department’s internship coordinator and as faculty adviser to Excalibur, Evangel’s student-produced yearbook, Pace-Miller was uniquely qualified to speak about this particular topic.

Additionally, she has served as a full-time faculty member since 1999 and currently supervises and teaches in the communication department’s degree completion program for adult learners. Pace-Miller also serves as an academic adviser and teaches upper-division summer courses.

“The most rewarding part of this workshop was when another university adviser asked me about the video that I had shown in the presentation. He remarked how good it was,” she said. “It was great because the video was done by students who are a part of student media.  It reinforced the message of the presentation. I was so proud of my students at that moment.”
