Evangel University Concert Orchestra to perform with Homeschool Orchestra

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University Orchestra and Concert Orchestra will host a joint show with the Play and Sing His Praises Home School Orchestras of Springfield, Mo., on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Evangel’s chapel auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The program features a wide range of musical styles, with prominent pieces like Howard Shore’s The Fellowship of the Ring and Schubert’s Symphony No.8 from Unfinished.

The Evangel portion of the concert will include the concert orchestra with a wind ensemble and the university orchestra with a string section.

Each orchestra will perform selections on its own, and the program will conclude with a combined orchestra of 110 musicians. Dr. Larry Dissmore, director of orchestra at Evangel University, will conduct the combined orchestra.

Selections performed by Evangel ensembles include the following:

  • Fiddle Faddle, by Howard Shore
  • Hibernia, by Michael W. Smith
  • Concerto Grosso in D minor, by G.F. Handel
  • Satiric Dances, by Norman Dello Joio

The Play and Sing His Praises Home School Orchestra program is directed by Kathy Love. It consists of two groups – the Beethoven Orchestra and the Brahms Chamber Orchestra.

The performances of these groups include the following pieces:

  • He Is Exalted, by Twila Paris
  • Meditation from Thais, by J. Massenet
