April 16, 2013 | Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Two of Evangel University’s performance ensembles, EU Chorale and EU Chorus, will collaborate to present a joint concert on Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the university’s chapel auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The 42-member chorale and 86-member chorus will perform a variety of sacred music.

The chorale is under the direction of Dr. Richard Honea, professor of music. They will perform the following:

  • Praise Ye The Lord, by Hugo Distler
  • I’m Goin’ to Sing; Hark! I Hear the Harps Eternal; and Jesus Died On Calvary’s Mountain, by Alice Parker. (Solo by senior Colin Knoth.)
  • Sing Me To Heaven, by Daniel Gawthrop
  • Praise The Lord, by Knut Nystedt

The chorus is under the direction of Tom Matrone, associate professor of music. They will perform the following:

  • Alleluia, by Sven Lekberg
  • Help Us, Oh Lord, by Aaron Copland
  • There’s Something About That Name, by Bill & Gloria Gaither
  • Mender, by Richard Smallwood (Arrangement by Christopher Phillips, solo by junior Bama Dills.)

The ensembles will then join to perform with soloists Susan Smith, associate professor of music; Jason Huneycutt, 2002 Evangel graduate; and Dr. Richard Honea. They will be accompanied by Dr. Greg Morris, piano professor, and the EU string players.

The annual spring concert is an Evangel tradition that was established during the early years of the school.

“We consider this night to be a representation of the diverse choral literature that our students are exposed to each semester,” said Matrone. “We invite the community to be a part of our evening.”

Evangel University is a private, Christian university of arts, sciences and professions. With an enrollment of more than 2,000 students from all 50 states and abroad, Evangel offers more than 100 undergraduate academic programs and nine master’s programs.
