SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University Jazz Orchestra will perform their first concert of the year at homecoming on Thursday, Oct. 3. Joel Griffin, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies, directs the orchestra.

The concert will take place at 8 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

“With all the excitement around this year’s homecoming celebration, this will be a great night of fun and music,” Griffin said. “If people want a seat, they’d better get here early; we are expecting a full house.”

The concert also will feature Matt Moore, adjunct professor of music, on the trombone.

“I hope the audience takes away a deeper appreciation for jazz and all the performing arts,” Griffin said. “I hope we can inspire them to explore the world of jazz, as well as support live music in the Springfield area.”
