Evangel University to hold graduation activities, April 30-May 3

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University will honor the graduating class of 2014 with events and activities from April 30 to May 3.

This year, a total of 595 degrees will be conferred at Evangel’s graduation, including 337 traditional undergraduate, 76 adult studies and 68 master’s degrees. Also included in the total are 76 bachelor’s degrees from Central Bible College and 38 associate’s degrees from James River Leadership Campus.

Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel will confer an additional 97 degrees, 30 of which are doctoral degrees, during their commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at Central Assembly of God in Springfield.

Dr. Robert H. Spence will serve as the commencement speaker on May 2. He is completing 40 years in his role as president and will assume the duties of university chancellor on May 1. Also effective May 1, Dr. Carol Taylor, currently president-elect/CEO, becomes president of Evangel University.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30

  • Adult & Graduate Studies Baccalaureate

On Wednesday, April 30, at 7 p.m., Adult & Graduate Studies graduates will be recognized with a baccalaureate awards and honors ceremony in the Robert H. Spence Chapel auditorium. Graduates and their families are invited to celebrate these achievements.

  • Baccalaureate Reception

A reception for Adult & Graduate Studies graduates and their families will be held in Crusader Hall immediately following Wednesday’s baccalaureate ceremony. Graduates will have an opportunity to introduce family members to President Spence, President-elect Carol Taylor, administrators and professors.

THURSDAY, MAY 1

  • Parents’ Brunch

At 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, a brunch will be held in Crusader Hall for parents only. Parents are asked to RSVP to Sherry Clopine at (417) 865-2815, ext. 7290.

  • Undergraduate Baccalaureate

On Thursday, May 1, at 3 p.m., the undergraduate baccalaureate awards and honors ceremony will be held in the Robert H. Spence Chapel auditorium. Dustin Evans, son of Dave and Terri Evans of Winfield, Mo., was selected by the 2014 senior class to deliver the baccalaureate sermon for this ceremony. Evans will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies and a minor in psychology. He serves as president of the Sigma Alpha Sigma academic honor society and is a resident assistant of Scott First South, Evangel’s male honors floor. Evans also will be named Outstanding Graduate in Biblical Studies.

Students transitioning from Central Bible College also had the opportunity to elect a baccalaureate speaker to represent their senior class. Andrew McGuire, son of Wayne and Melanie McGuire, is a church leadership major from Greenbrier, Ark. During his time at Central Bible College and Evangel, Andrew served as junior class vice president and volunteered with Footsteps, a mentoring program that ministered to male teens. After graduation, McGuire will serve as a youth pastor in Wynne, Ark.

  • President’s Reception

FRIDAY, MAY 2

  • Evangel Commencement Ceremony at James River Church

The events of the week will culminate with the 56th annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m. in the James River Church auditorium. James River Church is located just off Hwy. 65, south of Springfield.

“Everyone is encouraged to allow at least 45 minutes to get through the traffic,” said Paul K. Logsdon, director of public relations. “Nearly 4,000 family and friends will be present to experience this celebration of their students’ accomplishments.”

SATURDAY, MAY 3

  • AGTS at Evangel Commencement Ceremony at Central Assembly of God

The commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at Central Assembly of God in Springfield.
