Artist Series: Hollywood studio musician Richard Todd

The Evangel University Artist Series will be hosting a two-day event for horn players and other interested musicians featuring renowned jazz artist and Hollywood movie soundtrack musician Richard Todd.

The activities will begin on Friday, Sept. 26, and end with a public recital on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m.

The two-day event is free, and no registration is required.

All activities will take place on Evangel University’s campus in the Barnett Fine Arts Center. The building entrance is just south of the Robert H. Spence Chapel. Parking is provided in the faculty or student parking spaces at no charge.

About the Artist:

From Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl, from the Jazz Bakery to Birdland, internationally renowned concert, jazz and recording artist Richard Todd has earned acclaim as one of the finest horn soloists today.

His diverse career has found him performing as a student with legendary artists such as Leonard Bernstein, working with the great film composers in Hollywood and playing with great icons such as Frank Sinatra.

Todd is equally well known as a studio musician. He has more than 1,000 soundtracks to his credit for Hollywood movies and television shows such as Star TrekPlanet of the ApesJurassic Park and The Simpsons.

He serves as an associate professor of French horn at the University of Miami, Frost School of Music, and he also performs regularly with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.

“Todd is a gold medal winner of the 1980 Concours Internationale Toulon,” said Erik Jackson, Evangel University horn instructor. “He is a Pro Musicis International Foundation Award winner and is continually expanding the boundaries of the horn world.”

4-5 p.m.             Interview and discussion regarding Richard Todd’s colorful career
