“It’s a privilege anytime you get to play jazz in today’s world, and that’s how we approach each concert,” said Griffin. “These students have worked very diligently to prepare what I believe will be one of the EU Jazz Orchestra’s best performances to date.”

The Evangel University Jazz Orchestra performs contemporary compositions as well as jazz classics and sacred jazz arrangements. The ensemble offers students of all majors the opportunity to experience jazz performance and a variety of jazz styles.

Griffin is a native of Southern Missouri and graduate of Missouri Southern State University with a B.A. in saxophone performance. He earned his master’s degree in theory/composition from Missouri State University prior to joining Evangel’s faculty as director of jazz studies.

He remains an active performer, joining jazz great Wayne Bergeron for shows across the country and taking part in numerous jazz festivals, such as the Drury University Jazz Festival and Pittsburg State Jazz Festival, each year.
