This event marks the debut performance of a new group, the Evangel University Sinfonia, which is dedicated to the performance of music for chamber orchestra and other smaller chamber ensembles.

“The Sinfonia is an ensemble dedicated to the ‘chamber’ concept; that is, to the performance of music written for smaller orchestra as well as a for a variety of chamber ensembles composed of woodwind, brass, and string instruments,” said Dr. Larry Dissmore, professor of music and director of orchestral activities.

The Sinfonia will perform chamber orchestra music by Faure and Handel, and will also perform Gordon Jacob’s Old Wine in New Bottles scored for pairs of woodwinds and horns.

The full Evangel University Orchestra will perform Gwyneth Walker’s energetic piece, Open the Door.

  • Signature, by Jan Van Roost
  • Suite No. 2 in F, by Gustav Holst

The Symphonic Band is directed by Matthew Moore, interim director of bands, and by Katrina Benecasa, assistant director of bands.
