McCorcle named Interim Provost and V.P. for Academic Affairs

SPRINGFIELD, MO — Dr. Michael McCorcle, professor and chair of the Science and Technology Department at Evangel University, has been named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs effective July 1, 2015.

Dr. McCorcle has more than 35 years of experience as an educator, faculty leader and researcher.

Current Provost Tilahun Adera has announced his decision to conclude his service as Provost/VPAA effective May 31, 2015. Dr. Adera has accepted a research fellowship and will serve as a special advisor to the University President.

McCorcle has served as chair of science and technology since 2001 and is a respected faculty leader. He joined the Evangel faculty in 1996 and has taught a broad range of courses in the SciTech Department.

He has also been principle investigator on two National Science Foundation grants, has served on numerous university and faculty committees and councils, and in 2007 received the E.M. and Estella Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Michael Tenneson, professor of biology, will serve as chair of the Science and Technology Department. Tenneson joined the Evangel faculty in 1987.

Background

A Springfield native, McCorcle is a 1976 graduate of Parkview High School. He attended Evangel (then College) from 1976-1978 before transferring to California for a specialized degree.

He earned a B.S. in Atmospheric Science at the University of California-Davis, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Meteorology at the University of Utah. He also served on the faculty of Iowa State University.

Prior to Evangel, McCorcle was a senior research scientist with the Science Applications International Corporation in McLean, Va., where he worked on numerous research projects for the U.S. Forest Service, NASA/Kennedy Space Center, the EPA and the Department of Defense.
