SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University is hosting a free reading clinic this month, providing one-on-one literacy support for K-12 students who signed up earlier this spring. Each student will receive a total of sixteen 60-minute reading sessions.

The clinic runs June 1-25, Monday through Thursday mornings. The tutors are local teachers who are enrolled in the Master of Education in Literacy program at Evangel University.

“We have 14 graduate students working one-on-one during two sessions each morning, serving a total of 28 local students,” said Dr. Becky Huechteman, professor of Education.

“Our master’s students are working toward state certification as reading specialists,” said Huechteman.

According to Dr. Shonna Crawford, assistant professor of education, “This is proving to be a benefit to students and families in our community, as well as a wonderful experience for our grad students.”

The clinic will be repeated next summer.

The free sessions are available to elementary, middle and high school students, whether they are in public school, private school, or home school.

Families interested in next summer’s clinic should contact the Evangel University Education Department via email at literacylab@evangel.edu, or call (417) 865-2815, ext. 8548.
