SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — From the great performance halls of the world to Springfield, Missouri, Evangel University presents an Artist Series Recital with two of Germany’s finest, the renowned Minguet String Quartet and pianist Andrus Klein.

Both artists will appear on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., in the Barnett Fine Arts Center, which is located just south of the Robert H. Spence Chapel, facing Glenstone Ave.

The concert is free and open to the public.

“The Artist Series is privileged to host these gifted and exceptional musicians,” said Dr. Linda Ligate, professor of music at Evangel. “Their musical collaboration, featuring the music of Bach, Mozart and Chopin, will be a delight and inspiration for all.”

The Minguet Quartet, founded in 1988, is one of the most internationally sought-after string quartets today and gives guest performances in all the great concert halls of the world.

The just completed season took them from Berlin to Paris, Vienna to Venice, as well as to the USA, Canada, Japan, and Central and South America.

The namesake of the Quartet is Pablo Minguet, a Spanish philosopher of the 18th century who attempted, in his writings, to facilitate access to the fine arts for all sectors of the population — and this idea is a chief artistic concern of the Minguet Quartet.

The ensemble concentrates on Classical-Romantic literature and modern music in equal measure, and has proven its commitment to compositions of the 21st century through numerous premieres.

The passionate and intelligent interpretations of the Minguet Quartet always ensure inspiring listening experiences – “for the joy in sound and expression with which the ensemble makes the works speak enlivens even the smallest detail.” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)

German pianist Andreas Klein has distinguished himself as a dynamic and compelling performer with his command of a wide range of tonal colors and imaginative interpretations.

The New York Times declared him, “A fascinating artist with all the indispensable qualities: temperament, taste, touch, tone, the four T’s of pianism” and “A pianist who makes silences sound like music.”

Klein is a graduate of the Juilliard School and received a Doctoral of Musical Arts from Rice University. He complemented his studies with the legendary Claudio Arrau and Nikita Magaloff.

His career as orchestra soloist and recitalist has taken him to the world’s most prestigious venues: from London’s Wigmore Hall to Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall, and New York’s Carnegie Hall to Washington, DC’s Kennedy Center.

“Andreas Klein played this work with grace, melodious sound and plenty of brilliance, revealing an immaculate technique.” (with the Berlin Philharmonic) — Tagesspiegel, Berlin, Germany

Since 1987 Andreas Klein has also been active as recording engineer and producer of classical music.

He has recorded numerous orchestral and chamber music live recordings for NPR affiliate radio stations, some with renown soloists like Joshua Bell, Midori, Lynn Harrell, Andre Watts and many more. His audio productions are distributed by the Naxos, Marquis and Eroica labels.
