Emily Engebretson to present master’s flute recital on Saturday, April 9

April 1, 2016 | Mallory Johnson

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Emily Engebretson will perform her graduate-level flute recital on Saturday, April 9 at 4 p.m., in the Barnett Recital Hall at Evangel University.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Engebretson earned her B.A. in music performance from Evangel, and she will graduate with her Masters of Music Performance degree in May. She is a student of Kathleen Cowens, adjunct instructor of flute.

“Entrance into the master’s program at Evangel is selective,” said Tom Matrone, chair of the department of music. “It is predicated on the ability of the applicant to have the potential necessary to actively pursue a professional performance career.”

Engebretson will perform a chamber recital instead of the traditional flute solo recital. She will be accompanied throughout the recital by Evangel students and alumni.

Program

  • “Three Irish Folksong Settings,” by John Corigliano — duet with Esther Malone
  • “Trio in G Major, Op. 3, No. 1” by Pietro Locatelli — trio with Katrina Benescasa and Austin Day
  • “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” by Irving Berlin, arranged by Frank J. Hafferty — quintet with Tori Helton, Amanda Johnson, Dodi Peterson and Aaron Parrales
  • “Early Hungarian Dances from the 17th Century,” by Farkas Ferenc — quintet with Tori Helton, Amanda Johnson, Dodi Peterson and Aaron Parrales

Engebretson is the daughter of Russell and Leslie Riell.

Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, she now lives in Springfield with her husband Adam Engebretson, who graduated from Evangel in 2013 with a degree in biochemistry.

The Department of Music at Evangel University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the Missouri Association of Departments & Schools of Music. Courses and degree plans are designed to satisfy requirements of these accrediting agencies.
