SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Dan Morrison has joined the leadership team of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) and will serve as the director of the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching, beginning with the Fall 2016 semester.

A 2011 graduate of the seminary, Morrison has been involved in pastoral and campus ministry for the past 15 years.

“We are delighted to have Dan join the faculty of AGTS,” said Dr. Jim Railey, dean of the seminary. “He brings excellent academic preparation, a wealth of practical experience, and a commitment to biblical preaching to his new role with AGTS.”

The Burnett Center has been designed with the express purpose of promoting lifelong learning for growth, depth and effectiveness of the preaching ministry of the church.

“The center is foundational to the seminary’s deep commitment to the training of capable biblical preachers,” said Railey.

It is named after Cordas C. Burnett, the first executive vice-president of AGTS and is funded by a generous gift from the Burnett family.

“In addition to his teaching assignments, Morrison will represent the Burnett Center publically and will work to promote increased awareness of its value in the preparation of men and women for vocational ministry” said Railey.

Respected servant leader

A native of Fairfield, Ala., Morrison attended the University of Alabama and earned a B.S. in mathematics. After graduating, he served with Chi Alpha, the campus ministry of the Assemblies of God, at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Morrison later attended AGTS, where he received his Master of Divinity, and he is currently a Ph.D. candidate at McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

“Dan is a scholar/practitioner who is well-loved and highly respected as a young leader within our Fellowship,” said Dr. Mark Hausfeld, president of the seminary. “He exemplifies academic excellence, coupled with a full Pentecostal theology, and he has a track record of proven ministry that will benefit his students as they pursue ministerial preparation at AGTS.”

Morrison has served the past two years on the staff of Evangel Temple, in Springfield, as the associate pastor of young adults. His duties entail overseeing the activities related to The Barn at ET.

“The Barn is place where college and graduate students, along with young professionals and married couples, find a community in which to grow in faith and opportunities to serve the needs of our city,” said Morrison.

“As a graduate of AGTS, it is an honor to now serve the Seminary,” he said. “In my new role as the director of the Burnett Center for Expository Preaching, I desire to help students grow as people who exhibit a high regard for the Scriptures and a sensitivity to the person and work of the Holy Spirit.”

Dan will serve in the office previously occupied by Dr. Doug Oss, professor of theology and founding director of the Burnett Center. Oss retired from AGTS in the Spring of 2016.
