November 3, 2016 | Mallory Johnson

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Dr. Lok Ng, pianist born in Beijing, China, will be performing an Evangel University guest artist recital on Tuesday, Nov 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. Ng currently serves as assistant professor of music at Truman State University.

By age 11, she was studying under Zhau Ping-Guo at the Central Conservatory of Beijing, the most prestigious music school in China. As a teenager, she studied with Gabriel Kwok at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Ng immigrated to the United States in 1992 and earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in piano at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Her education continued at the University of North Texas, where she earned her D.M.A. in piano performance while studying with Joseph Banowetz. She then earned a post-doctorate Professional Studies Certificate in piano at Manhattan School of Music, studying under Zenon Fishbein.

“I am very enthusiastic about this opportunity and look forward to meeting the students and faculty,” said Dr. Ng. “The repertoire that I am going to perform includes some of my favorite works from when I was a young piano student. Over the years, I have heard this literature performed in competitions and concerts, so I really want to share this music I am passionate about with my audience.”

Dr. Ng performs all over the world with featured appearances at events such as the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts’ 25th Anniversary in 2010, where she performed a concert titled “The Academy’s Best Pianists,” given at Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall.

She has also been a prizewinner at several piano competitions, including second place at the Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition, finalist at the American Prize, first place at the MTNA Young Artist piano competition in Nevada and first place on two occasions at the UNLV concerto competition.
