Dr. Sarita Gallagher, Australian author and professor of religion, to speak at AGTS

The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) of Evangel University will present a lecture from Dr. Sarita Gallagher, associate professor of religion at George Fox University, on Thursday, Nov. 30 from 2 to 3:15 p.m.

The title of the lecture is “’The Joy of the Lord is my Strength:’ An Exploration of the Relationship between Suffering and Worship in the Narrative of 1 Samuel.”

Gallagher will speak in the Seymour Chapel at AGTS, on the north corner of Evangel’s campus at Division and Glenstone.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

“Dr. Gallagher is an excellent lecturer, and her work in the Old Testament will be beneficial to all who come to hear her,” said Dr. Valerie Rance, AGTS Intercultural Doctoral Studies administrative assistant.

About Dr. Gallagher

Sarita Gallagher joined the Department of Religious Studies at George Fox University in Newberg, Ore., in 2010. Prior to that, she taught at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., and at several schools overseas.

She grew up in Australia, has traveled extensively and served as a missionary with CRC Churches International, a Pentecostal Australasian-based denomination, in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Gallagher earned her Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif.; her M.A. from Wheaton College Graduate School in Wheaton, Ill.; and her B.A. from Wheaton College.

Her dissertation on the topic of “Abrahamic Blessing” was published in 2014. She will soon add 1 and 2 Samuel in the Polis Commentary series to her list of published work. In addition, she has had multiple chapters and articles published.

In addition to her work in biblical theology of mission, her research interests also include Melanesian mission history, intercultural studies, and world Christianity.
