Published on Feb 27, 2018 by Mallory Johnson

Evangel University music major Mason Kohler will perform her senior vocal recital on Thursday, March 1, at 6 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Center. She will be accompanied by Carla Wootton.

The public is invited to attend, and admission is free. The Fine Arts Center is located on the south side of the Spence Chapel, facing Glenstone Ave.

Mason is the daughter of Dwayne and Chris Kohler. A native of Shoemakersville, Pa., she is a graduate of Hamburg Senior High.

Mason’s voice instructor is Dr. Jane Berg. She has also studied with Dr. Marcia Mahnken and Dr. Grace St. Pierre.

She will earn a Bachelor’s of Music degree in worship leadership this spring.

“Worshiping God through singing makes me feel more alive than anything else on earth,” said Kohler, who hopes to become a worship pastor at a church after graduation and dreams of traveling and writing her own music.

“The worship leadership major at Evangel prepares students for a music ministry position, such as choir director, orchestra director or worship music leader,” said Tom Matrone, chair of the Department of Music. “It is also a good track for a student who intends to pursue graduate studies in music.”
