UPDATE: Evangel’s 60th Annual Graduation Week activities

Three days of events to honor the Class of 2018 — undergrad, graduate and seminary  

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A variety of commencement activities for Evangel University graduates and their families will take place on Wednesday, May 2, through Friday, May 4.

Awards and honors will be given at formal Baccalaureate Ceremonies for traditional undergrad students, for the College of Adult and Graduate Studies, and for the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary of Evangel.

There will also be 517 degrees conferred at the first joint graduation ceremony for Evangel and AGTS on Friday, May 4, at 9:30 a.m. in the James River Church auditorium in Ozark, Mo.

“Everyone is encouraged to allow at least 45 minutes to get through the pre-graduation traffic,” said Paul K. Logsdon, director of public relations for Evangel. “Nearly 4,000 family and friends will be present to experience this celebration of their students’ accomplishments.”

Graduation Week Highlights

WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, at 7 P.M.

  • The College of Adult & Graduate Studies — Baccalaureate

Graduates of the College of Adult & Graduate Studies will be recognized with a Baccalaureate, Awards and Honors Ceremony in the Robert H. Spence Chapel auditorium. A hooding ceremony will also be held for master’s level students.

A highlight will be the celebration of the first Evangel graduates to earn doctorate degrees, aside from the seminary, with eleven educators earning their Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction (Ed.D.).

The speaker will be Dr. Carol Taylor, president of Evangel University.

A reception for the CAGS graduates and their families will be held in Crusader Hall immediately following Wednesday’s baccalaureate ceremony. Graduates will have an opportunity to introduce family members to President Taylor, administrators and professors.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 3, at 9 A.M.

  • Assemblies of God Theological Seminary — Doctoral Events

Doctoral candidates and their work will be honored during a series of public events in the AGTS building near Glenstone and Division, including:

  • Intercultural Doctoral Studies Investiture in the AGTS William Seymour Chapel;
  • Doctor of Ministry Symposia in rooms 114 and 116; and
  • Biblical Interpretation and Theology Celebration, upstairs in the balcony area of the seminary.

The public is invited to attend. The Baccalaureate Ceremony and Intercultural Doctoral Studies Investiture will be streamed live at agts.edu

 

THURSDAY, MAY 3, at 12 P.M.

  • Assemblies of God Theological Seminary — Baccalaureate

AGTS will hold a Baccalaureate Service at noon in the Seymour Chapel, with the gathering of the entire seminary community for worship, hooding of graduates, awards, and speakers. The Rev. Doug Clay, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, will be in attendance as a participant.

The speakers this year will highlight the experiences of three 2018 degree candidates:

  • Tim Gilligan, earning a earning a Doctor of Ministry, currently serves as senior pastor of Meadowbrook Church in Ocala, Florida.
  • Jake Krahn, earning a Master of Divinity, will serve as lead pastor at New Life Assembly in Pierre, South Dakota following graduation.
  • Christi Trimbur, earning a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies, serves with AGWM in the Middle East.

The President’s Reception will follow in the Great Hall of AGTS.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 3, at 3 P.M.

The undergraduate Baccalaureate, Awards and Honors Ceremony will be held in the Robert H. Spence Chapel auditorium, located just south of the flagpole, facing 1111 N. Glenstone Ave.

Senior Cody Bivins was selected by his Evangel classmates to deliver the baccalaureate message. He was a member of the Catalyst Impact Team and has earned a double major in Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages while at Evangel. Cody is the son of Paul and Donita Bivins of Nixa, Mo.

A reception for undergraduates and their families will be held in Crusader Hall immediately following Thursday’s baccalaureate ceremony. Graduates will have an opportunity to introduce family members to President Taylor, administrators and professors.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 4, at 9:30 A.M.

  • Evangel University & AGTS — Joint Commencement

Evangel University will celebrate its 60th Commencement, and AGTS will celebrate its 45th Commencement, in the first joint ceremony since the consolidation of the schools in 2013. The event will take place in the James River Church auditorium, which is located just off of Hwy. 65, south of Springfield.

This year’s guest speaker is the Rev. Doug Clay, newly-elected general superintendent of the Assemblies of God.
