EU Films premieres Uprooted, Dec. 7 at Evangel University

Published on Nov 19, 2018 by Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — EU Films will be premiering the fall student production, Uprooted, on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018.

The film is a slightly tongue-in-cheek adventure involving a college botanist working on his Ph.D. who takes a unique specimen home from a foreign country. The “specimen” happens to be a highly prized plant with significant cultural and financial value.

Trouble follows him home and throughout the film as he becomes entangled with an underground crime organization. The tagline of the film is “Some things are best left untouched.”

Showtimes for Uprooted are 6 and 8:30 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Center at Evangel University. Barnett is located just south of the Robert H. Spence Chapel, facing Glenstone Ave. Doors open 20 minutes before showtime.

The cost of admission for adults is $2, students $1, and Evangel students with an ID get in free.

“It’s going to be entertaining for sure!,” said director Ethan Swick. “I’m extremely thrilled about this project. The team and I have been working very hard the past couple of months, and as the whole film is coming together, we expect to see something very special and unique.”

Dr. Cameron Pace, faculty adviser, said, “This film gives students the opportunity to create scenes of danger, a foreign land, and other unique features that we don’t always have in our films. The purpose is to provide a significant learning experience with each film.”

The cast for the production of Uprooted is Curtis Stout (Alan), Nate Schaefer (Zhavav), McKenna Merdoch (Donna), Elena Daheke (Yuyan), Jerry Mac Johnston (Dr. Caine), Jordyn Ryhnearston (Laila), Caleb Gravot (Teddy), Juliana Vitosh (Teddy’s girl).

Many actors are from the Springfield community with Evangel students filling out the film staff and crew positions.

Real world experience

EU Films is a student media organization located in the Communication Department at Evangel University. Each semester, the Film Workshop — a course connected with EU Films — produces a feature film of 45 to 60 minutes in length. Films are supervised by executive producer and adviser Dr. Cameron Pace.

Films produced at Evangel are shown at the end of each semester, and then uploaded to the website Crusadermedia.com for public viewing at a later date. Evangel’s cable station, EUTV, also airs the films approximately three to four months after the public viewing.

EU Film productions are photographed using professional 4K and HD digital film-style cameras. Visuals are edited using Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and DaVinci Resolve software.
