Evangel University students were elected to fill two of four state leadership slots for 2018-2019 in the Student Missouri State Teachers Association ( SMSTA ).
Student MSTA is the pre-professional organization for education majors on Missouri college and university campuses.
Anna “Josie” Gregory from Nixa, Missouri, is a middle school education major and the Evangel SMSTA chapter president.
Madaline Thompson from Barry, Illinois, is an early childhood/elementary education major and serves as the Evangel chapter elementary education representative.
“Each nominee presented a two-minute extemporaneous speech describing their contributions to their local SMSTA chapter as well as their qualifications for being a state leader. Following the speeches, convention delegates voted and the four candidates receiving the highest number of votes became the new Ambassadors,” said Reed.
Duties of Ambassadors include attending spring and summer planning meetings, participating in MSTA’s Leadership Symposium in July, and presiding over the Student MSTA State Convention in November 2019.
According to the organization, MSTA nurtures the next generation of teachers by sponsoring a student group at the college level. Members have opportunities for personal and professional growth, development of leadership skills, and participation in professional development at local and state levels.
