Published on Mar 7, 2016 by Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Sexual assaults on college and university campuses has been identified as an area of concern nationally. Evangel University’s Department of Public Safety is currently hosting a SHARP Instructor school, March 7-9, 2016, for area campus safety professionals.

SHARP, which stands for Sexual Harassment, Assault and Rape Prevention, is a program designed to teach personal safety and sexual assault prevention.

“Those who are participating will be certified to teach the SHARP program at their institutions,” said Roger Moore, director of public safety for Evangel. Moore is a certified Instructor/Trainer for SHARP and is conducting the three-day course.

Several area campuses sent representatives, including Missouri State University, Southwest Baptist University, Cox College, Evangel University and officers from the Springfield Police Department.

Twelve participants are working to re-certify, or become certified for the first time, as instructors.

Moore joined the Evangel University staff in February 2014, following 20 years of service with the Springfield Police Department. There, he served as the police academy director and the training section commander responsible for operations at the Springfield Police & Fire Regional Training Center.
