SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Department of Business at Evangel University will host a Business Leadership Forum on Friday, Oct. 2, at 1:00 p.m. in Trask Hall, room 101.

The forum is free and open to the public, as a part of EU’s Homecoming week activities.

The speaker is Michigan State University professor Dr. Raymond Schmidgall, CPA, Hilton Hotels Professor of Hospitality Financial Management in The School of Hospitality Business.

Schmidgall, a 1967 graduate of Evangel, is nationally recognized as an expert in hospitality accounting and financial management.

His topic for Evangel is “Partnerships + Work + Faith = Success.”

“Dr. Schmidgall will encourage our current students to see how someone can grasp God’s calling in the area of business and integrate his faith with all aspects of his life and a successful career,” said Bernie Dana, chair of the Department of Business.

A prolific writer, Schmidgall has authored or co-authored more than a dozen textbooks, another dozen chapters in books, and more than 250 articles.

The eighth edition of his college textbook Managerial Accounting for the Hospitality Industry is scheduled to be published in October.

Schmidgall holds a bachelors degree in accounting from Evangel, plus an MBA and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

Prior to teaching, Schmidgall was the financial controller of the Educational Institute, American Hotel and Lodging Association and worked as an auditor with Ernst and Ernst.

An Active Alumnus

Since graduating from Evangel, Schmidgall and his wife Barbara (Roehl ’70) have been strong supporters of the University and the Department of Business. Ray co-founded the Business and Economics Endowed Scholarship Fund just a few years after he graduated.

The couple has also committed to fund the Schmidgall Endowed Chair for Business Excellence, which provides funding for business faculty and program development.
