Seminary Undergraduate Programs
The minor in Youth Ministries is designed to equip and prepare students for comprehensive ministry focused on youth.
Upon satisfactory completion of the minor in Youth Ministries, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Biblical mandates for a balanced foundation for ministering to young people.
- Utilize foundational knowledge to develop a holistic, and intentional strategy for effective ministry to young people.
- Implement determined core knowledge regarding the Biblical mandates and strategies specific to the needs of young people.
- Determine the extent to which young people have progressed on their spiritual journey.

Each of Evangel's academic programs is made up of a set of core curriculum, program requirements and electives. The courses listed below are just a small sample of courses that might be taken as a part of this specific program.
Strategic Youth Ministry | Provides a comprehensive philosophy of youth ministry. The call of a youth pastor, goal setting, and developing a personal philosophy of youth ministry are covered. Students learn to develop a youth ministry consistent with their philosophy of youth ministry. |
Youth in Ministry | Places emphasis on involving youth in ministry within the context of the local church. It considers aspects of equipping youth for personally participating in various ministries of the church, including the discovery and implementation of spiritual gifts and natural abilities, the engagement of active contributions towards the mission of the larger community of faith. |
Youth Discipleship | Emphasis is on discipling and the mentoring of youth advisors and students. Other emphases include developing a discipleship program that will lead students in developing a sustainable devotional life that extends beyond the youth ministry years. |
Youth Evangelism | Looks at personal evangelization of youth and ministry on the senior high school campus. Students study the legal and practical aspects of access and acceptable activities. |
Adolescent Ethnography | The focus of this course is on developing a greater understanding of how and why culture shapes the identity of adolescents with the purpose of looking for ways to communicate an unchanging Word to a changing world as pastor-ethnographers. Attention is given to various cultural factors that impact youth culture including the influence of music and media and the effect of postmodernism on morality. |

Dr. Michael Jaffe: Church Ministries Department chair
Dr. Michael Jaffe provides leadership for Evangel’s School of Theology and Church Ministries as chair of the Church Ministries Department. General Undergraduate Requirements
The following are general requirements for all students beginning an undergraduate program at Evangel. For more information visit Undergraduate Admissions Requirements.
Diploma | Graduation from high school, or having the equivalent of a high school diploma such as the General Education Development (GED) examination. |
Core Subjects | A minimum of a 2.0 GPA in core college prep classes (English, math, social sciences and science with a lab) or high school final GPA if no college credits have been earned. |
Standardized Tests | >Entering freshmen should take the ACT or SAT test. The codes for Evangel are as follows: SAT: 6198. ACT: 2296. |
