This course provides an overview of Islam, including its beginnings and expansion, the beliefs and practices of formal and folk Islam, Islamic sects, the identity of women, Islam in the United States, global Islam today and bridges for communicating with Muslims.
Church Planting in Muslim Contexts MSS 643
1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Instructor: Asa Kain
A study of the planting of churches in restricted contexts, particularly noting the backdrop of theological, cultural and spiritual issues. Principles for establishing evangelistic and discipleship ministries in Muslim societies will be explored. Special attention will be given to the unique process of establishing the church within the Islamic culture.

Folk Islam & Power Encounter MCC 554

Instructor: Fred Farrokh
A study of the development of popular Islam within the world of official Islam, emphasizing an understanding and analysis of the felt needs of ordinary Muslims. Special attention will be given to the role of spiritual power encounter as a tool in evangelizing Muslims.
Islam in the United States MCC 553
1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Instructor: Tommy Hodum
A study of the birth of American Islam, the early waves of Muslim immigration and the evolution of American Islam toward orthodoxy. Emphasis is placed on the implications of Islam’s rapid growth in American society and the Christian’s responsibility to address this challenge.

FRED FARROKH
- International trainer with Global Initiative: Reaching Muslim Peoples
- Served as executive director of Jesus for Muslims Network in metro New York and special projects officer with SAT-7 in Cyprus
- Earned a PH.D. in Intercultural Studies through the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (2014); dissertation topic: Perceptions of Muslim Identity: A Case Study Among Muslim-Born Persons in Metro New York
TOMMY HODUM
- Trainer at Global Initiative: Reaching Muslim peoples since 1997
- Served as an Assemblies of God U.S. Missionary since 1984
- Co-authored several books and authored multiple magazine articles on ministry to Muslims
- Taught in many bible colleges and seminaries in the U.S. and abroad
- Earned a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies from Columbia University, South Carolina and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Missouri
ASA KAIN
- Served as Senior Pastor of Dhaka Assembly of God for past 40 years
- Served as the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Bangladesh for 30 years
- Is a Christian from a Muslim Background who understands the struggles Muslims face in coming to Christ
- Teaches in several theological institutes and travels worldwide to speak in conferences
SOBHI MALEK
- Has served as an Assemblies of God World Missionary since 1968
- Hosts a weekly Arabic radio program broadcast into multiple countries on short wave, internet, and satellite.
- Translated the Bible into Arabic. The Sharif Bible provides the first Arabic translation that Muslims can understand.
- Authored multiple books and speaks in conferences and seminars on issues related to Islam
- Earned a Doctor of Missiology at Fuller Theological Seminary
