Evangel University presents Fine Arts Development Day, Feb. 17

Published on Jan 24, 2018 by Paul K. Logsdon

Thousands of students participate each year in District and National Fine Arts Festivals sponsored by the Assemblies of God.

Evangel University will host a Fine Arts Development Day on Saturday, Feb. 17, in partnership with the National Fine Arts Department of the AG, to help young people further develop their gifts and prepare for their district festivals.

The 2018 Fine Arts Development Day will attract middle school and high school students from across the U.S.A. who plan to enter competitions this spring. Activities will be held in Evangel’s Barnett Fine Arts Center.

“The day will include open coaching sessions and workshops in the various departments at Evangel University,” said Dr. Bonnie Jenkins, professor of music. “Evaluators and faculty will coach individual presentations in open sessions.”

Each year, more than 65,000 students compete in the District and National Fine Arts Festivals. Students may enter as many as 66 categories offered in nine main divisions: Art, Communication, Dance, Drama, Enterprise, Exhibition, Instrumental, Vocal and Writing.

The 2018 National Fine Arts Festival will be held in Houston, Texas, July 30 to Aug. 3.

“The Fine Arts Festival approach encourages the discovery, development and deployment of young talent,” said Doug Jenkins, director of CBC alumni and church relations at EU. “And that’s what we do at Evangel on a daily basis — encourage the development of young talent.”

Come early for College Days

The Fine Arts students are encouraged to arrive on Thursday evening, Feb. 15, and join with other prospective students and their families on Friday for the first EU College Days of 2018.

“However, students who cannot come for both days are welcome to attend either event,” added Dr. Jenkins.

EU College Days are all-encompassing visit days for students from around the country. Guests tour the campus, visit classes, attend chapel and meet with professors, admissions counselors and current Evangel students.

“For an undergraduate student, there’s no better way to get a feel for campus life at Evangel than by coming for a visit,” said Ana Solano, associate director of undergraduate admissions.

“Our college days give students the chance to immerse themselves in the EU undergraduate experience, allowing them to envision themselves as Evangel students,” she said. “We look forward to answering their questions and helping them navigate the admissions process.”
