Evangel University connects with students at annual National Youth Convention

Published on Aug 5, 2022 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – A team of faculty, staff, and students from Evangel University attended the Assemblies of God (AG) National Youth Convention (NYC) in Orlando, Florida, from August 1-5. The event brings together middle and high school students from across the nation to compete in the AG’s annual Fine Arts Festival (FAF), a competition designed to help students develop their creative talents in over 80 categories, including singing, reader’s theater, graphic design, photography, short sermon and more.

“The National Fine Arts Festival presents a key opportunity for Evangel professors and staff to connect with prospective students,” said Chris Belcher, vice president of enrollment. “We offer fine arts scholarships that complement the talent of these incredible teenagers.”

The NYC also includes various service opportunities with Convoy of Hope and nightly services with featured speakers from the AG’s National Youth Ministries Department.

In odd-numbered years, NYC coincides with the AG’s General Council meetings, which include forum discussions, voting, and plenary sessions that determines the fellowship’s bylaws, culture, and future endeavors. The next General Council and NYC will be held in Columbus, Ohio, from July 31-August 4, 2023.

About Evangel University’s Fine Arts Scholarships

Every year, Evangel University awards renewable fine arts scholarships based on performance, ability, and needs within the applicable department. Fine Arts scholarships are part of EU’s talent scholarship program, which also includes athletic awards.

About the AG Fine Arts Festival

The AG Fine Arts Festival is designed to help students discover, develop, and deploy their ministry gifts and to learn about their God-given abilities and talents. FAF enables students to experience a time of learning through evaluations, workshops, and interaction with other students.

Beginning in September each year, over 65,000 junior and senior high school students begin preparing their entries for the district and National Fine Arts Festivals. Students may enter as many as 80+ categories offered in 7 main divisions: Art, Communication, Dance, Drama, Instrumental, Vocal, and Writing.
