Our program focuses on historical critique and analysis earlier than most undergraduate history programs. Some programs believe that the undergraduate degree is just to introduce the student to the facts of history without challenging the students to analyze or critique commonly held views. The Evangel program is different because we begin to teach the process of critical review at the undergraduate level, instead of at the more typical graduate level.

Another aspect of the History program at Evangel is the flexibility allowed to students to take history classes that are most interesting to them or will best benefit their career goals.

Each of Evangel's academic programs is made up of a set of core curriculum, program requirements and electives. The courses listed below are just a small sample of courses that might be taken as a part of this specific program.

Civil War Era	Interpretation of the Civil War era, including abolitionism, slavery, politics, the society of the generation before 1860, and conflicting views of the reconstruction of the Union.
Early American Republic	Political, social, and economic development of the United States from the Revolution through the Jeffersonian and Jacksonian periods.
Medieval History	A brief overview of the history of Europe from the fall of the Roman Empire to the discovery or the Americas.
20th Century United States	An in-depth study of the United States in the twentieth century.
Soviet and Post-Soviet Russia	Political, social, and economic development of Russia from 1880 through the Soviet period to the present day. Emphasis on the interaction of social, political, and economic events that transformed Tsarist Russia into a Socialist empire and ultimately led to the collapse of that empire.

General Undergraduate Requirements

The following are general requirements for all students beginning an undergraduate program at Evangel. For more information visit Undergraduate Admissions Requirements.

Faith	As a boldly Christian university, all of our students have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
Diploma	Graduation from high school, or having the equivalent of a high school diploma such as the General Education Development (GED) examination.
Core Subjects	A minimum of a 2.0 GPA in core college prep classes (English, math, social sciences and science with a lab)
Grade Average	A "C" average. However, in some cases, a student with a weak academic record may be considered. To remain at Evangel, however, the student must meet scholastic requirements.
Standardized Tests	>Entering freshmen should take the ACT or SAT test. The codes for Evangel are as follows: SAT: 6198. ACT: 2296.
