Tell us about your career and what you do now.

I started my career writing scripts for AM radio news stations all across the Midwest. From there I began reporting and anchoring on many of those stations including in Des Moines, IA, Omaha, NE, and St. Louis, MO.

After five years I moved to Wichita, KS with my wife, Brittany, in 2023 and began working in television. Today I’m the weekend anchor at KWCH TV in Wichita, KS, anchoring the 6:00 pm, 9:00 pm, and 10:00 pm newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays. Three days a week I also put together news packages as a multimedia journalist. That includes shooting, editing, writing, and live reporting those stories for evening newscasts.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

Some of my greatest memories are spending time with the guys on Lewis 1st Floor South. During my four years at Evangel the people I lived with on L1S became some of my best friends that I still see to this day. I often times tell people how blessed I was to have been placed on that floor my freshman year because of the people it brought into my life.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

A lot of that definitely comes from supportive staff members. The communications department at Evangel is a great community with professors always wanting to see you succeed. When those professors saw I had a passion for tv news they really helped guide me in the right direction and cultivate my skill set.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

There are a lot of opportunities at Evangel. Being a smaller school, if you have a passion for something there’s a place for you to get involved. EU TV was a great outlet for me to begin learning what it’s like to be on a tv set and start developing the skills necessary to begin a career in tv news.

When it comes to the tv business you can get the full experience at Evangel. Whether that be on-camera work, camera operation, or production work, whatever your interest is you’ll be able to get experience doing it in a professional setting at Evangel.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

Whatever your passion is, dive into it head first. It’s competitive out there. In my experience employers not only want talented workers, but people that are passionate about what they do. Once you find your calling, give it your all.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” Colossians 3:23

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

I like working with people that like what they do. I think these days it can be hard finding people that are truly passionate about their career, and employers really notice when you show that you care about the work you’re putting in. If you show up to work everyday with a desire to work for the Lord you’ll have a successful career in whatever you do.
