SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Evangel University will celebrate Veterans Day and the service of Evangel’s veterans, one day early this year. Activities will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and will include a special chapel service in the morning and a dinner that evening.

Chapel at Evangel

The chapel service is open to the public and will be held at 10 a.m. in the Robert H. Spence Chapel Auditorium.

The local U.S. Marine Corp Color Guard will present the colors, while the Evangel University Orchestra performs “The National Anthem” under the direction of Dr. Larry Dissmore.

Past and present members of the military will be recognized for their commitment to serve, while “Salute to the Armed Forces” is sung by the Evangel University Chorus under the direction of Dr. Kevin Hawkins.

The guest speaker will be retired Brig. Gen. Michael W. Miller, CEO of Texzon Technologies, a national energy technology development and procurement firm, operating in Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois.

Prior to his retirement in 2012, General Miller was the senior health care administrator in the Air Force and was responsible for the development and execution of the Air Force Medical Service’s $5.8 billion annual budget.

The Spence Chapel faces Glenstone Ave. and is located just south of Evangel’s main entrance and flagpole.

Dinner at AGTS

The Evangel University Veterans Association and the Admiral Vern Clark Veterans Center at Evangel will honor service members on Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, by hosting a free dinner at 6 p.m.

The event will be open to invited veterans and active duty students, faculty, staff and alumni of Evangel and AGTS. It will be held in the great hall of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel.

“The program will be brief, so guests will have an opportunity to mingle and visit our Veteran’s Center,” said Chaplain Stormy Davis, coordinator of veterans services at Evangel.

Lt. Col. Windsor Warren, a World War II veteran, will be honored at the dinner. Warren served three years of active duty and 30 years in the Army Reserves.

As a founding partner of Warren & Goodin Architects & Engineers in Springfield, he was responsible for hundreds of projects in southwest Missouri, including several at Evangel, Central Bible College and the General Council of the Assemblies of God.

A devotional will be presented by retired Brig. Gen. Michael W. Miller, CEO of Texzon Technologies.

AGTS at Evangel is located on the corner of Glenstone and Division, on the north end of the Evangel University campus.

The Admiral Vern Clark Veterans Center

The Admiral Vern Clark Veterans Center at Evangel opened its doors to Evangel and AGTS veteran students in the summer of 2014. Between EU and AGTS there are 73 students/dependents who are using their veteran benefits this year.

Admiral Clark — a 1967 graduate of Evangel — is the retired Chief of Naval Operations for the U.S. Navy, having served in that position and on the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2000-2005. He is the second-longest serving CNO in history.
