SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — An art exhibit featuring the work of Gary Gibson, Evangel University alumnus, will be displayed at the Bellwether Gallery in downtown Springfield Oct. 5-31.
The opening reception will take place during First Friday Artwalk on Oct. 5, 6-10 p.m. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
Evangel University has partnered with Randy Bacon Photo Studio and Art Gallery, located in the Monarch Art Factory, to showcase its student, faculty and alumni art projects. The gallery is on Main, just south of College. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday-Friday; noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday; and is closed Sunday and Monday.
“Art for me grew out of a creative energy that was never able to express itself through traditional art tools,” Gibson said. “I lived with a great deal of frustration until I came face-to-face with photography. Immediately, the camera became my brush, and film became my canvas.”
The pieces presented will feature a wide variety of subjects.
Gibson’s work will be moved to the foyer of Evangel’s Barnett Fine Arts Center between the chapel and classrooms Nov. 2-30.
Evangel University is a private, Christian university of arts, sciences and professions. With an enrollment of more than 2,000 students from all 50 states and abroad, Evangel offers more than 100 undergraduate academic programs and nine master’s programs.
