Published on Sep 6, 2019 by Paul K. Logsdon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University Department of Music will present a free concert followed by two music industry master class sessions with seasoned musicians Tasha Layton and Keith Everett Smith, Oct. 1 & 2, 2019, in the Barnett Fine Arts Center.

All events are free and open to the public. Barnett Hall is located south of the Spence Chapel, facing Glenstone Ave.

“The two days are being produced by the Recording Technology Degree faculty and students,” said Matt Moore, director of bands at Evangel.

“We welcome and encourage local musicians and other university students to attend all sessions.”

The artists

Keith Everett Smith is a multi-Grammy and Dove Award winning producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and a member of TobyMac’s Diverse City Band.

He has worked with artists such as The Jonas Brothers, Elton John, Kelly Clarkson, MercyMe and Amy Grant. He has also played on soundtracks and scores for movies and television ranging from The Lone Ranger to The Jersey Boys to The People’s Choice Awards.

Tasha Layton toured four years and 40 countries with Katy Perry, a gig that came along after turning down an invitation to tour with Rihanna and Kesha. She was also an American Idol contestant.

In the studio, Layton has recorded songs for projects as diverse as Cirque du Soleil and Nickelodeon. Her debut EP, aptly titled Love Running Wild, is a pop-synth driven project on BEC Records.
