Published on Nov 5, 2013 by Michaela Smith

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –– The Evangel University Chorus and Chorale will perform together in concert on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert H. Spence Chapel.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. The chapel faces Glenstone Ave. and is located south of the flag pole.

The University Chorale is a 45-member select choir which performs both on the Evangel University campus and in the community. The mission of the chorale is to prepare and present only the best of sacred classical choral literature.

The purpose of the non-auditioned University Chorus is to develop fine choral singing through the rehearsal and performance of masterworks of choral literature from all eras including contemporary formats.

Both the chorus and the chorale are under the direction of Tom Matrone, director of choral activities.

Program

The chorale and the chorus will perform the following pieces:

  • “Awake, Awake!” by Craig Courtney
  • “Musica animam tangens,” by Aaron Copland

Help Us, O Lord
Thus, O Jehovah, Abideth Forever
Have Mercy on Us, O My Lord
Sing Ye Praises To Our King

  • “A Covenant Prayer,” by Dan Forrest
  • “A Mighty Fortress is Our God,” by Martin Luther
  • “Te Deum,” by Mark Hayes
  • “Order My Steps,” by Glenn Burleigh

“This will be a great concert,” Matrone said. “We are proud to present these works as a heartfelt expression of faith.”
