SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University’s campus is featured in “Running the Bases,” a Christian film from UP2U Productions. “Running the Bases” is currently showing in theaters in Springfield, Branson, and Ozark, as well as in Harrison, Arkansas.
In addition to filming on the Valor baseball field, the production team shot scenes in the university’s chapel, cafeteria, library, executive board room, a lecture hall, and a dorm room.
“We absolutely love the campus and how it looks on film, as well as how welcoming and helpful everyone was,” said Johnnie Ray Scroggins, one of the film’s producers. “Evangel rolled out the red carpet for our cast and crew.”
“Running the Bases” follows a small-town high school baseball coach who takes the job of a lifetime at a large, urban school. For the nine-time state champion coach, winning comes secondary to building his players into young men of character and integrity. However, as a man of faith, he faces extreme opposition to his coaching methods from the school’s superintendent.
“’Running the Bases’ is one of the best faith-based movies in the last five years,” said Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide, a Christian film review website.
“The main theme is to wake up a complacent church,” said Scroggins. “It is a message of faith, forgiveness, redemption, and salvation.”
The film is written and directed by Marty Roberts and Jimmy Womble and features Brett Varvel, Gigi Orsillo, Todd Terry, and Cameron Arnett.
