Uriah Lee presents senior saxophone recital, March 22

Published on Mar 12, 2018 by Paul K. Logsdon

Uriah Lee will perform his senior saxophone recital at Evangel University on Thursday, March 22, at 7 p.m., in the Barnett Fine Arts Center recital hall.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. The Fine Arts Center is located just south of Evangel’s Spence Chapel, facing North Glenstone Ave.

Lee will be accompanied by David Giles on piano. In addition, two Evangel University students and an alumnus will perform a saxophone quartet with him.

At Evangel, Lee has performed as a member of the EU Jazz Orchestra, Sinfonia, University Concert Band, EU Saxophone Quartet, University Chorus, and he was a drum major with the EU Marching Band.

As a music major, his primary instructor has been Joel Griffin, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies.

“Uriah is a hard working student,” said Griffin. “This should be a wonderful night to celebrate all he has accomplished in his time at Evangel.”

Lee is the son of Eric and Ilene Lee. A native of Shiprock, N.M., he is a 2011 graduate of Shiprock High School.

“I have had a passion for music since I was in high school,” Lee said. “One thing that inspired me was a concert I watched one night with my parents. The performer was a new-age Greek composer named Yanni. I grew up listening to his music, and never have I heard such beautiful melodies.”

His goal is to continue into a graduate program and earn a Master’s in Instrumental Conducting. Lee’s dream career will find him at the university level as a music teacher and director.
