New students arrive at Evangel on Friday, August 24

SPRINGFIELD, MO — Evangel University anticipates the arrival of nearly 500 freshman and transfer students on campus when residence halls open at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012.

New students are coming from 45 states and numerous foreign countries including Bolivia, Spain, Hungary, Congo, Kenya, Indonesia, Singapore, Phillipines, China and Sri Lanka, as well as our neighbors Mexico, Canada and Bahamas.

Classes begin Wednesday, August 29.

“EU Launch is the new student orientation program designed to welcome students and parents as they arrive on campus,” said Dr. David Bundrick, vice president for student development.

“The activities are designed to connect new students with faculty, staff and other students and prepare them for success in their academic, spiritual and social development,” Bundrick said.

A few highlights are listed below.

Friday, August 24 highlights

  8 a.m. – New resident students arrive and check into residence halls

10 a.m. ­– New commuter students check in at Riggs Hall (administration building)

  3-3:45 p.m. – Welcome Extravaganza in Chapel

  4-5 p.m. – Faculty Meet-n-Greet in Mabee Student Fitness Center

Saturday, August 25 highlights

  8 a.m. – Returning students arrive and check into residence halls

  9-10 a.m. – Student Panel: “What I Wish I’d Known as a Newbie”

12-5 p.m. – Service Learning Experience: Convoy of Hope

Sunday, August 26 highlights

10:30 a.m. – All-Evangel Worship Service in Chapel; President Robert H. Spence, speaker

11:30 a.m. – Goodbye Celebration Barbecue in Crusader Dining Hall — farewell to family members

Instead of EU Launch t-shirts, this year Evangel is providing an innovative gift for new students and their parents — a maroon blanket with a white embroidered EU logo, for practical use during EU Launch events (such as Movie on the Lawn) and during the fall home EU football games.
