New students move into dorms with the help of EU Launch leaders.

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – EU Launch kicks off at Evangel University this Friday, Aug. 18 as new and transfer students arrive for the 2023-24 academic year. EU Launch provides an immersive schedule of events for students and their families to settle in on campus and experience the university’s vibrant community life. Evangel has admitted approximately 400 new and transfer students to its student body.

“Our 42 Launch Leaders and the entire Evangel community are very excited to welcome new students into the family!” said Christy Rowden, Evangel’s director of student activities. “EU Launch gives new students the best start possible – socially, academically and spiritually – as they become acclimated and begin their transformative college journey.”

EU’s six residence halls will be open for new student move-in from 8 a.m.-noon on Friday. Evangel student leaders, faculty, staff, and volunteers will be on hand to assist with move in efforts. New commuter students will be able to check-in at Riggs Hall atrium from 2-3 p.m.

A variety of interactive and informative EU Launch events are scheduled for Friday through Tuesday, Aug. 22. Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

Evangel’s incoming student body includes individuals from 31 U.S. states and seven foreign countries – Japan, Republic of the Philippines, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Costa Rica, and Serbia.

EU Launch highlights

EU Launch helps ease the transition for new students and their families during the first few days on campus by connecting them with faculty, staff, and other students to foster a sense of community and belonging.

Friday at 7 p.m., parents may participate in a come-and-go dessert reception to connect with EU’s new president, cabinet members, and other parents. At the same time, new students will meet their EU Launch leaders and connect with smaller groups of other new students.

New students participate in a grocery distribution event at Weller Elementary as part of EU Launch.

Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., new students will participate in a day of community service coordinated by EU’s Center for Compassion in partnership with Convoy of Hope. Students will serve at a drive-through grocery distribution event at Weller Elementary for its students and families, participate in agricultural projects at Convoy’s world headquarters, and at a community partnership event in Rockaway Beach.

Sunday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. students and their families will participate in an all-Evangel worship service in Spence Chapel.

Monday at 6:30 p.m., an “EU Excursions” event will allow new students to explore Evangel’s campus and enjoy recreation activities with their Launch groups, followed by Little Caesar’s pizza.

Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. the annual “End of Summer Bash” will provide an opportunity for students to play games, enjoy dinner and Pineapple Whip on the quad, and meet with other new and returning students.

Tuesday at 9 p.m., the annual IgNight ceremony will take place as students, faculty, and staff ring in the new academic year. The celebration will end with an exciting fireworks display.

Special focus on community service

Community service is an integral part of the Evangel experience, and each year new students begin their time on campus with a dedicated day of service in coordination with EU Launch activities.

“The Community Service Day is an exciting part of EU Launch,” said Steve McMichael, director of Evangel’s Center for Compassion. “This event is foundational in establishing a culture of compassion and service within the student body.”
