The Film program is a heavy-duty video production program that educates the student to use his or her skills, intellect, and creativity to make an impact in culture, ministry and the entertainment business. The Film major is a mix of art and technology that offers the student real opportunities to learn the craft in an environment that integrates faith and education. The program takes a core of Communication coursework that provides the basis for advanced work in the field of media. Film courses include subjects such as scriptwriting, video production, audio production, editing, directing, photography, compositing and animation, and lighting. These topics are placed within the context of both narrative and documentary filmmaking.

Students in film courses create multiple short films, commercials, montages, and specialty videos. Evangel offers the Film Workshop, in which students produce a feature-style film each semester. Students act as director, producer, cinematographer, audio supervisor, camera operator, editor, and many other positions while working as a team to produce a 45- to 60-minute film. The feature film is shown to the public on a special night at the end of the semester. These films also are featured on the Web and local cable access channels.

Evangel is also affiliated with the Los Angeles Film Studies Center. Though it is not required, many Evangel students have completed part of their Film program through the LAFSC. One of the benefits of attending the LAFSC for a semester is to acclimate the film student with the film industry in Los Angeles. This is especially important for those who want to spend their careers working in LA. Internships in video production are also available while the student is attending Evangel.

Each of Evangel's academic programs is made up of a set of core curriculum, program requirements and electives. The courses listed below are just a small sample of courses that might be taken as a part of this specific program.

Video Production	Introduction to the basic principles and procedures involved in television studio production and practical application of production skills. A special emphasis on video editing is included.
Scriptwriting for Film and Television	Developing scripts for narrative films, commercials, and documentaries. Writing screenplays for motion pictures or television dramas.
Electronic Cinematography	Intermediate course in dramatic film production and digital film technologies. Emphasizes motion photography, directing, film editing, digital video camera techniques, and digital non-linear editing.
Aesthetics & Techniques for Film & Television	Emphasizes two areas of study: the application of media aesthetics as it relates to television and film, and the theories and methods used to produce film and video documentaries. Additional course work includes digital video editing, computer graphics, and advanced post-production techniques and compositing.
Capstone Project in Film	Seminar centers on the student's ability to work through an approved project or paper under the supervision of an advisor or another Communication faculty member. Taken during the junior or senior year.

Any accepted student may be a Film major. However, to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film, the student must have a 3.0 GPA and 3.5 GPA in the major. Otherwise, the student may earn a bachelor of arts or science.

General Undergraduate Requirements

The following are general requirements for all students beginning an undergraduate program at Evangel. For more information visit Undergraduate Admissions Requirements.

Faith	As a boldly Christian university, all of our students have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
Diploma	Graduation from high school, or having the equivalent of a high school diploma such as the General Education Development (GED) examination.
Core Subjects	A minimum of a 2.0 GPA in core college prep classes (English, math, social sciences and science with a lab)
Grade Average	A "C" average. However, in some cases, a student with a weak academic record may be considered. To remain at Evangel, however, the student must meet scholastic requirements.
Standardized Tests	>Entering freshmen should take the ACT or SAT test. The codes for Evangel are as follows: SAT: 6198. ACT: 2296.
