Springfield, MO. – Evangel University Films is presenting a short films showcase open to the public on Monday, April 28, at 7 PM in the Barnett Fine Arts Auditorium. The showcase will feature various short films and videos created by Evangel students during recent semesters in addition to a few classic oldies from previous years. Admission is free and open to all.
Some of the short films being shown include senior capstone projects, film and video projects from various communication courses, and animations from digital arts courses. Short films consist of narrative stories, comedy and drama, documentary films, and cartoon animations. All films are 20 minutes or less.
Evangel has had a tradition of showing student projects on film or video going back to the spring of 2000. At that time, the showcase was called “ECTV’s Night at the Movies”. Once the Film Workshop was added to the curriculum, it produced a feature film to be shown each semester. There is no feature film this semester as the Film Workshop is now only in the fall semester. EU Films is already working on the fall feature film project. The finale of the April 28 Short Films Showcase will be the first trailer for the fall feature film. This trailer will reveal the story idea, date, and title of the film to the public.
Dr. Cameron Pace, the EU Films faculty adviser, said, “Short films are quite a lot of fun for the audience. If you don’t particularly like the film you are watching, wait a couple minutes and another one will be shown.” Pace also stated that this showcase is a great opportunity for students to have their work shown. When there is a feature film being shown, there is limited time to fit in a couple shorts at the fall showcases.
Doors are open at 6:30 PM for the 7 PM showing. The showcase is expected to run approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
EU Films is the student filmmaking organization on campus and operates primarily out of the Film Workshop course each fall. Students creating film projects in classes at Evangel are considered to be a part of EU Films and are encouraged to continue learning their craft in various ways.
