EU Films to premiere student film “Rose & Buji”

Published on Apr 25, 2023 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – EU films, a student media group within Evangel’s Communication Department, will host the premiere of “Rose & Buji,” its latest production, on Friday, April 28. Showings are at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall, and admission is free to the public.

“Rose & Buji,” a comedic action murder mystery, follows the unlikely duo of Rose (David Farmer, EU ‘22), an ex-military private investigator, and Buji (Jachin Like, senior), an ex-con, as they work together to solve a murder. Through twists and turns, Rose and Buji must determine who they can trust and who committed the crime.

The film also features Kaylee Clay, junior, as Beth, Logan Crafton, senior, as Bailey, Summer Radershadt, senior, as Josy, and local actor Robert Montgomery as Snoot.

“The original idea for the film came about six months before we began production,” said Wyatt Long, senior and the film’s director. “The initial plot of a cop duo film snowballed from there and eventually refined itself into the fun murder mystery we have today.”

Long was assisted by writers MyAun Boyd, junior, and Kaylee Clay, junior. Clay also serves as the film’s editor. Additional production staff include producer Clara Butler, sophomore; director of photography Brady Rosenthal, senior; assistant director Kylie Butler, senior; audio supervisor Titus Smith, freshman; and assistant editor Hannah King, senior. 10 additional workshop students participated in the film’s production.

Films are supervised by Dr. Cameron Pace, executive producer and Communication Department chair. Films are premiered to the public at the end of each semester and archived on the Evangel Valor Media website for future viewing.
