Evangel Orchestra and Alumni soloists to Present special Concert

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — The Evangel University Orchestra will be joined by alumni soloists when it presents its Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 pm. It will be held at the Spence Chapel on the Evangel University campus. This concert will be the Farewell Concert for Conductor, Dr. Larry Dissmore as he will be retiring from Evangel University in May.

The featured piano soloist for the concert is Dr. Sarah Morris who is a 2016 graduate of Evangel University. This past fall, Dr. Morris returned to her Alma Mater to serve on the music faculty as a professor of piano. Dr. Morris will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major.

Two violin alumni Cynthia Rose, class of 2003, and Natalie Beihl, class of 2021, will also be featured on the concert as soloists in the Bach Double violin Concerto,

In addition to the concertos, the University Orchestra will also perform Outdoor Overture by the American composer, Aaron Copland, and two works by Antonin Dvorak: his Slavonic Dance in G minor, and the fourth movement of his Ninth Symphony, “From the New World.”

Dr. Larry Dissmore joined the Evangel University Music Department in 1988 as the Director of Orchestral Activities and as the Professor of Violin and Viola. For more than 20 years, Dr. Dissmore was a member of the Evangel Evangel music faculty ensemble, the Excelsis Trio.

In the greater Springfield community, Dr. Dissmore has performed as a member of the Springfield Symphony for 38 seasons, served as Music Director of the Springfield Youth Symphony from 2002-2011, and has often performed as both a violinist and conductor with the Messiah Project, Inc. Dr. In addition to the above, Dr. Dissmore currently serves as the Orchestra Director at Evangel Temple Christian Center in Springfield, Missouri.

The concert is free and open to the public.
