Dr. Jim Railey is the 2017 recipient of Evangel University’s top honor for faculty — the E.M. & Estella Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service.

The Clark Award includes a cash grant and was presented on May 5, during Evangel’s 59th Annual Commencement ceremony.

Railey has been a professor of theology at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary since 1991. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Railey serves as vice president/dean of the seminary, its top leadership position under Evangel University.

The Clark Award was established in 1991 by Dan and Elaine Johnson, in recognition of her parents’ work on behalf of higher education in the Assemblies of God, as well as their special affection for Evangel University.

A REWARDING CAREER
Students of Dr. Railey were quick to share what stands out about him as a professor. Common responses included:

  • He has a passion for the Word of God.
  • He shows great concern and patience with the students.
  • Everybody feels free and comfortable to ask questions.
  • He has great clarity in his presentation… he is easy to understand. And that is because he is very systematic in his teaching — a humorous reference to his specialization in Systematic Theology.

In addition to his classroom and administrative accomplishments, Jim is a published author in scores of theological and professional publications.

Prior to joining AGTS, Dr. Railey served as secretary of the Department of Education for the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and before that, 11 years as a professor and department chair at Southeastern in Lakeland, Fla.

Dr. Railey had 11 years of pastoral experience before that, in North Carolina, Florida and Alabama.

When they first moved to Springfield, Jim’s wife, Linda, served an adjunct instructor in Evangel’s Department of Education, and later worked eight years in the Records Office.

Together they have two adult children and six grandchildren.
