SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Music Department will present the 35th Annual Christmas Concert on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., in the Robert H. Spence Chapel. Special guests this year will be the Girls Choir of Springfield.

The event is open to the public and the doors will open at 6 p.m.

Admission to this popular holiday celebration is either a non-perishable food item or a cash donation to benefit The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army’s nationwide campaign enables them to provide food, toys and clothing to more than six million people during the Christmas season. Last year’s Christmas Concert at Evangel raised 813 pounds of food and $1,042 in cash for the Salvation Army.

“The Evangel Christmas Concert is a community event that historically has offered a wide variety of Holiday Music, including both choral and instrumental music,” said Dr. Tom Matrone, chair of the Department of Music.

“This event is both a gift to the community at large and is a tangible way to assist the Salvation Army as they bless our neighbors,” said Matrone.

While this is the 35th annual Christmas Concert at Evangel, for the first time, the Children’s Chorus of Springfield will welcome guests with music in the Chapel foyer.

The prelude will begin at 6:30 p.m. inside the auditorium, featuring the Suzuki Strings. They will be followed by the organ prelude at 6:45 p.m., featuring Dr. Mark Bowdidge, adjunct professor of music, and Heather Culbertson, a senior mathematics and chemistry double major at Evangel, from Homewood, Illinois.

More than 200 musicians will be performing in a variety of ensembles, starting at 7 p.m., including the Evangel University Orchestra, University Chorus, University Chorale, Men’s Vocal Ensemble, Women’s Chamber Ensemble, HeartSong, and the ever-popular Jazz Orchestra.
