AGTS professors co-edit collection of essays honoring noted Old Testament scholar

Published on Jun 8, 2022 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Dr. Meghan Musy and Dr. Rick Wadholm of Evangel University and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) recently co-edited “Community: Biblical and Theological Reflections in Honor of August H. Konkel,” published by Pickwick Publishing (an imprint of Wipf and Stock).

“Community” is a collection of essays dedicated to the work of Old Testament scholar August H. “Gus” Konkel. The book engages Old and New Testament texts, biblical languages, manuscript traditions, Qumran texts, and theological conversations.

Konkel is a noted Canadian Mennonite Old Testament scholar and pastor. He currently serves as president emeritus of Providence University College and Theological Seminary and has published commentaries on Job, 1 and 2 Kings, and 1 and 2 Chronicles. The release of “Community” coincides with his 70th birthday.

“Gus is always concerned about the local church in his writings and teaching and has passed this passion along in all of his work,” Wadholm said.

“He’s a jovial, pastoral, and humble scholar and professor. He sight-translates Scripture from the original languages as he preaches and teaches and cares deeply about his students. Working with Gus has impacted my teaching, scholarly career, and faith,” Musy said.
