EU Films to premier student-produced movie “If Only I Knew”

Published on Apr 27, 2022 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — EU Films, a student media group within the Evangel Communication Department, will host the premiere of “If Only I Knew,” its latest production, on Friday, April 29. Showings are at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall, and admission is free to the public. In addition to the 30-minute feature film, other student-produced short films will be shown.

The film, a dramatic comedy, follows Dominic (David Farmer), a college student who finds himself morally torn when a fall grants him the ability to see briefly into the futures of other people. Dominic tries his best to figure out what has happened to him while his friends Cassandra (Holly Black) and Matt (Daniel Herbert) grow concerned with their friend’s odd behavior.

The story for the film was an original idea from director Raelin Lakatos, a junior film and broadcast major.

Additional production staff includes Wyatt Long, junior, assistant director, Kaylee Clay, sophomore, writer and director of photography, Evan Espinoza, junior, chief editor, and Javiaun King, senior, audio supervisor/producer.

Each semester, students in the Communication Department’s film workshop course produce a 30- to 60-minute feature film. Students participate as staff, crew, and writers. Films are supervised by Dr. Cameron Pace, executive producer and Communication Department chair.

The Creative Process

“The experience has been challenging but also an opportunity to work with great people,” Lakatos said.

The cast and crew included 10 Evangel students, as well as other local talent from around the Ozarks.

“This film takes a fun and interesting look at how our gifts can also cause us problems when taken too far,” Pace said.

Evangel’s Communication Department prepares students to pursue careers within various communication-related fields. Students study video, audio and film production, journalism, public relations, advertising, public speaking, multimedia design, and much more – all applied through methods of electronic media, print, and oral communication.
