EU Films to premiere student film “Lady Luck”

Published on Dec 6, 2022 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – EU Films, a student media group within the Evangel Communication Department, will host the premiere of “Lady Luck,” its latest production, on Thursday, December 8. Showings are at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall, and admission is free to the public. In addition to the 60-minute feature film, other student-produced short films will be shown.

The film, a thriller, follows Athena (Kaylee Clay), a research analyst who discovers a theorem that can predict chance numbers. After her boss rejects the theorem, Athena seeks to prove its effectiveness by using it to win blackjack games in the seedy world of underground gambling. However, her life soon begins to spin out of control.

“Lady Luck” also features local actors Nathan Irwin as Jamie, Athena’s boyfriend, and Asa Leininger as Seth, Athena’s questionable guide into gambling. The story is an original idea from Allyson Symntek, senior, and Kaylee Clay, junior.

“Lady Luck” was directed by Jacob Harris, senior and previous EU Films editor. Harris was assisted by producer Wyatt Long, senior; director of photography Samuel Cochran, junior; and editor Brady Rosenthal, senior.

Additional production staff included assistant director Titus Smith, freshman, and assistant editor Raelin Lakatos, junior.

“It’s been a huge blessing to work with such a talented cast and crew,” Harris said. “I hope our audience will be able to see the passion we have all put into creating this film.”

Each semester, students in the Communication Department’s film workshop course produce a 30- to 60-minute feature film. Students participate as staff, crew, and writers.
