EU LAUNCH: New students welcomed to Evangel

Monday, Aug. 17 — Move-in day for new Missouri students 

Tuesday, Aug. 18 — Move-in day for out-of-state students

 

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — As the 2020 academic year gets underway, Evangel University will be staggering the opening of its six residence halls next week for EU Launch. The semester will start by welcoming a strong group of students from Missouri, on Monday morning, August 17.

New out-of-state students will be arrive on Tuesday morning, August 18, and then returning students will move in Wednesday and Thursday.

The residence halls will open each day at 8 a.m., and new students will find volunteers in masks, on hand to assist with the heavy lifting.

The first day of classes for Evangel will be Friday morning, August 21.

Evangel anticipates students from 45 states and 21 foreign countries, ranging from Argentina to the United Kingdom — as well as The Bahamas, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, Guyana, Hong Kong, Italy, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, and Tanzania.

EU Launch highlights

Evangel University endeavors to ease the transition for new and returning students during these first four days on campus by connecting them with faculty, staff and other students; creating fun memories; and igniting lifelong friendships.

Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., the Parents Experience Session will feature an introduction to the president, cabinet and a panel of student leaders. At the same time, new students will meet their EU Launch leaders and connect with smaller groups.

Wednesday evening at 8:45 p.m., students will gather for a Movie on the Lawn and Little Caesar’s Pizza.

Thursday at 4:30 p.m. will be the traditional Luau on the Lawn & Dinner, with games and Pineapple Whip.

And then at 9 p.m. on Thursday, the igNIGHT Opening Ceremony takes place with the entire campus family on the quad. This celebration event ends with a substantial Fireworks display.

Community Service

The traditional back-to-school Community Service Day for new students will take place on Saturday, August 22, in partnership with Convoy of Hope.

“We believe that we are all called to a life of service — no matter what major we choose, we should be prepared to make a difference in our community,” said Christy Rowden, activities director.

“Each year, our students start with a day of service, and this year we will continue that tradition while working in smaller groups.”
