Springfield, Missouri – A team of six Evangel University students recently traveled to Vienna, Austria to present at the 17th International Conference on the Inclusive Museum. The event was held at the MuseumsQuartier on Sept. 13-15 and attracted global participants. The students were the only undergraduate-level representatives at the conference.
EU senior Zoe McIntyre (multimedia journalism) and junior Carson Twigg (strategic communication) presented papers on increased museum accessibility to diverse viewers and the future of artificial intelligence in museums respectively. Senior London Redstone and junior Christian Redding, both theatre/speech education majors, facilitated a workshop titled “Developing Partnerships with Schools and Universities to Make Museums More Relevant to Younger Generations.” Senior Alyssa Nichols (communication studies) and junior Chloe Martino (strategic communication) led a workshop titled “Unlocking the Art of Museum Advertising.”
EU faculty mentors Mark Kelton, professor of communication, and Melinda Booze and Nancy Pace-Miller, associate professors of communication, directed the students’ research and accompanied them on the trip.
The students’ preparation and presentations garnered positive feedback from attendees. “I was really proud of how engaged the audience was with the students’ research,” said Pace-Miller. “Attendees included academic and museum professionals from around the world, and our students thoughtfully engaged with them and put their communication and research skills on full display.”
Students also had the opportunity to explore cultural sites in the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany, including a reflective visit to Dachau, one of the first Nazi concentration camps.
The trip was sponsored by the Evangel Forensics program and funded in part by the Richard G. Nitcavic Endowment Fund, marking the 12th international forensics trip for Evangel students.
