SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –– A group of TESOL students from Evangel University will volunteer to assist with Willard Public Schools’ annual ESL Family Night tomorrow evening, Tuesday, April 16.
The event will take place in the Willard High School cafeteria from 6-7:30 p.m.
TESOL stands for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. ESL stands for English as a Second Language and refers to those students and families whose native language is one other than English.
“This is an evening where students and families gather to celebrate the year, where parents can view special projects created by the students, and where families bring in food from their own cultures to share in a multicultural buffet,” said Jennifer Morrison, assistant professor of English and coordinator of Evangel’s TESOL program.
This is the second year for Evangel students to volunteer with this event.
This year, the Willard students have prepared a “Photo Story” presentation on various topics related to their cultural heritage. EU TESOL students will help with set-up, serving food and supervising activities for young children at the event.
Evangel University is a private, Christian university of arts, sciences and professions. With an enrollment of more than 2,000 students from all 50 states and abroad, Evangel offers more than 100 undergraduate academic programs and nine master’s programs.
