Published on May 6, 2024 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Evangel University Advocates (formerly known as the EU Auxiliary) will hold its annual “Colossal Sale” from May 15-18 in the Mabee Fitness Center, located on the northwest side of Evangel’s campus. Proceeds from the sale benefit university scholarships and academic and departmental projects.

The auxiliary will accept item donations from the public this Monday through Friday, May 6-10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donated items should be clean and unbroken and may be dropped off at the Mabee Fitness Center.

Items for sale include clothing, small appliances, jewelry, books, office items, toys, furniture, and other household goods.

The Colossal Sale will span four days and be open to the public during the following hours:

  • Wednesday, May 15, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 16, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Friday, May 17, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m. – noon

Assemblies of God employees and church members are invited to a special pre-sale on Tuesday, May 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Saturday is Bag Sale Day, where shoppers will be able to fill a provided bag for $7.

Helping Hands

The EU Advocates have held an annual fundraising sale since 1964. The “Colossal Sale” went on hiatus after the 2014 event and was revived in 2019 thanks to an influx of younger members.

“Since Evangel’s founding in 1955, members of the EU Advocates have been a constant support to the university by volunteering their time and talents,” said Dr. Michael Kolstad, EU chief of staff and executive vice president. “Their earliest efforts provided curtains and furniture in the dorms for our very first group of students.”

In addition to scholarships, major projects funded by the Advocates include the outfitting of the Anne Spence Heritage Room in Riggs Hall, the large Schantz pipe organ in Spence Chapel, outfitting of the second and third floor lobbies of Trask Hall, lighting and stage curtains for Barnett Fine Arts Theatre, uniforms for Evangel’s marching band, and new cameras for the Communications Department.
